The purpose of Rethink Inclusion Project is to facilitate and ensure the active participation of young people with disabilities in governance, politics and election.
Through this project, selected young participants are trained on topics such as understanding electoral process, their roles in ensuring inclusive governance, advocacy, running office, voting process as well as to enlighten them on voting rights and responsibilities.
In a democratic state, it is imperative that the voice of every Nigerian, including the Persons with Disabilities is heard. Also, as part of the democratic process, election is pertinent. Hence, it is most significant that we run an inclusive election.
According to the National Population Commission, people with disabilities make up about 15% of Nigeria’s population. However, despite this significant number, the rights of individuals with disabilities are often overlooked and not adequately protected. This is particularly true when it comes to their right to vote and be voted for.
We need to promote the education around inclusivity for persons with disability. Enough talk and little implementation is actually done in this space. Join us today!
